Your Own AdSense via AdSense API beta

Google have introduced the new AdSense API, a free beta service that allows web developer or host to integrate AdSesne into your website offerings. How does it works and how site owners can benefit from it?

Currently, Google only takes applications from people whose sites receive a mininum of 100,000 daily page views. To be eligigle, you must register users who then maintain their web content through your site. The types of sites they are loking for include web hosts, blog hosts, Wiki hosts, forum hosts, and web publishers.

With Google AdSense API, you as the site owner can perform a variety of AdSense functions without leaving your website. You can:

  • Create an AdSense account
  • Manage an AdSense account
  • Create and modify AdSense for content ad units and link units, AdSense for search boxes, and Referrals
  • View detailed reports to monitor performance and earnings

For every approved publishers you signed up through the API, you are eligible for the $100 referral fee each time a new publisher you’ve signed up earns $100 in less than 180 days. There is also a revenue sharing earned by the site owner.

My thoughts
Not only does Google try to dominate the contextual advertising market with this approach. They could possibly catch many big site owners who are wishing to seek ways to generate revenue from their site and their members.

Some sites could possible give their membership for free, furhter increase their userbase, while still allow them to earn money from the referral and revenue sharing model.

Now the biggest problem for site owners is how to support and encourage their members to write good content so they could earn their first $100 within 180 days. Think about education marketing. You give your members something for free, educate and motivate them to succeed. Because only by then you could earn more money.

Technical info
The AdSense API utilizes SOAP and WDSL, which means it is supported by Java, .NET, Perl, PHP, Python and XML programming language.

Example
Probably the most obvious example of Google AdSense API implementation is Blogger.com.
