Turning AdSense Ad Block Into Something Else?

This is another trick I got from the forum. It is simply amazing to see how a community could come up with such an idea and immediately work to verify how it could improve earning, etc.
One of the forum users even went as far as asking the AdSense rep if such AdSense block complies with AdSense TOS. The answer is positive.

Here is how it works:
1. Create an appropriate and interesting background image.
Make it about the same size as the ad unit size you are going to display on. Creativity really counts here. You could also test several settings like intentionally let it stand out from your site or blog or make it blend with other part of the page.
2. Draw a borderless table with the image as the background.
HTML table is a way to position image and other objects on the page. If you have access to a designer, you can tell them to create a CSS class for you if you wish.
3. Lay Google AdSense ad unit above the image or table.
Put the AdSense code in the borderless table. Of course, you need to match the background and other colors to match those of the background image.
For such a design, I believe it highly depends on the location and design of the ads too. For a page that has little to no distraction, if the ads are highly relevant, I could imagine an in increase in click-through rate almost overnight.
It is worth a try though. To prevent ad blindness, you could even try to rotate background images, especially if you have more than a handful of repeat visitors.
