Increasing Clicks with Tabbed Browsing

Chris Kenworthy has a tip worth trying for AdSense and perhaps other contextual advertising publishers out there. He has been doing some experiments where he displays AdLinks ad unit at the extreme top of the page.

The result is that such ads appear just below the Firefox and IE7 tabs. Using Google Analytics and AdSense click listener, he found that visitors who are using Firefox are almost 3 times more likely to click ads in this position than users with a non-tabbed browsers.

The most logical reason would be that these ads immediately grasp viewers’ attention when they are switching tabs.

If you decide to try this out, first check if you have enough Firefox visitors. As IE7 become widely used in the future, this tactic may worth a try.
